Countering Daesh (ISIS) Propaganda: Toward More Effective Strategies

On Tuesday, February 23, 2016, a panel of international experts discussed "Countering Daesh (ISIS) Propaganda: Toward More Effective Strategies." The panel discussion looked at the rise of Daesh, its global impact, and its use of social media for recruitment and propaganda dissemination. Panelists also examined existing measures for addressing radicalization and the response of Muslim communities in the West.

The panel was moderated by Dr. Houda Abadi, an associate director in the Carter Center's Conflict Resolution Program who is leading a Center project on countering Daesh recruitment propaganda. Panelists include:

  • Dr. Fatima Akilu, the executive director of the Neem Foundation of Nigeria.
  • Dr. Bawa Jain, the founding secretary-general of the World Council of Religious Leaders.
  • Ambassador Ebrahim Rasool, South Africa's former ambassador to the United States.
