Older Adults with Mental Illness

The Carter Center Mental Health Program in collaboration with the Fuqua Center for Late-Life Depression/ Emory University leads the Georgia Coalition of Older Adults and Behavioral Health. The Coalition is made up of 60+ organizations including state agencies, advocacy organizations, service providers from the behavioral health and aging services sectors and persons and families with lived experience. The Coalition identifies areas in which systems of care can improve in order to better serve the complex needs of the growing older adult population with mental illness.

The Carter Center in collaboration with key stakeholders works to implement evidence-based policy aimed at improving Georgia’s system of care for older adults and to inform national policy. Current work is focused on workforce development and improving use of evidence-based tools for determining decision making capacity of older adults with mental illness and dementia.
