What is the scope of the project?

The Ethiopia Public Health Training Initiative was one notable outcome of early-1990s talks between former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi about the devastating state of public health in the country. Although the initiative has focused on Ethiopia since it began in 1997, the process of working with partner universities to train a corps of health care workers was designed so that it could be replicated in other countries. One of the long-term goals for this initiative is to expand the methodology to other countries in need of public health infrastructure.
